Nike has just dropped the season appropriate ‘Bicycle Yellow’ iteration of its iconic Air Force 1 ’07 silhouette. It channels premium aesthetics with a sleek white leather base, while yellow patent material is incorporated across the eyelets and tongue branding. This AF1 ’07 features a padded collar, cushioning and Encapsulated Air technology.
Originally released in 1982, the Nike Air Force 1 was the first sneaker to be produced by popular demand, resulting in its name being coined as “the shoe of the people.” Its initial inner city fan base kept the shoe alive for years to come. They’d often be found paired with white jeans and big tees in the burgeoning grime scene, and the Atlanta trap pioneer Young Jeezy even created his own signature AF1.
In recent years the AF1 has tapped into the high-end, tall sneaker culture. This has resulted in modified models such as the oversized Special Field AF1 that was released last year. It also found a spot on the feet of Jax, the lead character in FX’s hit biker gang drama Sons of Anarchy. This despite the fact that the show never aimed to be realistic, and many were quick to point out that these white AF1’s weren’t exactly worn by real bikers.
Nike’s re-release of the Air Force 1 in numerous variants has introduced it to new audiences, and it’s no surprise that influencers like Travis Scott, G-Dragon, and Virgil Abloh have created their own signature pairs. With limited edition releases and collaborations with various artists, athletes, and cultural figures, the rebirth of the Air Force 1 continues to this day.
