Frank Ocean’s New Song “Biking” Has a Meaning

Aside from dropping Blonde last year, Frank Ocean has been relatively quiet over the past few years. But that doesn’t mean he’s taking a hiatus from music. The talented singer has released a series of songs for his Apple Music Beats 1 radio show blonded RADIO, including “Slide” and “Chanel.” And now the prolific artist is back with another new song. Titled “Biking,” it features JAY Z and Tyler, The Creator over production from Frank Dukes. Like the name suggests, this song is built around biking metaphors and imagery.

Biking premiered on Friday night during the latest episode of Blonded RADIO. The trio croon and rap about life’s cyclical nature and its similarities to riding a bike. Hov kicks things off by name-dropping Baltimore’s notorious dirt bike crew, the 12 O’Clock Boys, as well as various biking references throughout the rest of his verse. Tyler also uses several cycling-related lines, referencing his love for the sport and comparing himself to an expert cyclist while speaking of his own experiences with the sport.

With each verse, the song’s meaning becomes more apparent. Lens opens up about his relationship with a man while describing how they both struggled to hide it from their partners. He then touches on their reliance on drugs and other substances to get through daily hardships. The last line of his verse, “You showed me love,” reflects on their struggles and reminds us that it’s important to remember our loved ones.
