Whether you’re training for a big race or just trying to stay on track with your daily ride, you may find yourself riding in the rain at some point. While it takes a little extra attention and expertise, biking in the rain can be just as enjoyable as it is on a sunny day.
Keeping you dry
A great jacket will not only keep the rain off of you but also help regulate your core temperature and prevent you from overheating. Try a Gore Shakedry jacket or one of its many derivatives for the ultimate in lightweight waterproofing and breathability.
Fenders
Wet roads are not ideal for cycling and will often wash mud and other debris onto your bike and gear. Fenders will prevent this from happening and make your ride a lot less miserable. Fenders are available in a wide range of styles, from clip-on temporary ones to permanent full coverage ones.
Bike maintenance
After a rainy ride, it’s a good idea to check for any foreign objects that may have fallen off of your bike and give the whole thing a quick clean with warm water. A quick rinse and drying will get your bike ready for your next ride. It’s also a good time to add lube to your chain, shifters, levers, and brakes. Moisture can corrode metal components, so adding lube will keep them functioning properly.
