2016 SCOTT SPARK 760 Full Suspension Mountain Bike Small Retail $1900 ridden 3 timesGreat Condition GENERAL INFORMATIONThere are times when a carbon fiber frame doesn’t make sense. You might want something that is more crash-worthy, something you have to think about less, or you just want to save some money so it can be put toward more riding. For all these reasons, Scott offers the 900/700 Spark series in 6061 aluminum alloy. Thanks to advanced in aluminum fabrication, the shaping has gotten much, much closer to what you find in carbon. Aluminum is not molded the same way-it’s hydroformed–nor can extra layers of aluminum be added to high-stress spots. But the tubes are custom-butted so that there’s a maximum of material where the frame needs it and a minimum of where it doesn’t. This swap of frame material is the main change between Scott’s carbon-fiber Sparks and this. You’ll find the same geometry, which makes this ride scooty on the ascents and stable for the descents. You’ll find similar stiffness, meaning that the lateral flex you can find in some full-suspension designs is not present here, and the standout features that help make the Spark a top performer have been brought to aluminum. You sill have the geometry adjustment chip in the shock linkage to tweak the geometry: raise or lower bottom bracket height by 7mm (and adjust the head tube angle by .5 degrees) by flipping a chip at the top of the rear suspension linkage. Stick with the lower position for better stability unless you have a particularly rocky but rideable route. Finally, they’ve lowered the lower part of the downtube for a practical reason: more room for a downtube-mounted water bottle. The suspension is still controlled by a shock that was co-designed by Scott and a TwinLoc adjustment lever on the handlebar, which also helps adjust the fork on the fly. Realizing that different wheels result in a different ride, the 27.5” bikes come with 120mm of front and rear squish, while the 29er sticks with 100mm. Thanks to this, the bike will not only rock cross-country, but offer enough comfort and stability for a marathon. With versatility in mind, the rear dropouts utilize Scott’s IDS SL dropouts. The dropouts can be swapped among three choices: a 135x5mm quick release version, a 135x12mm thru-axle, and 142x12mm thru axle. Complete bikes come set up, but can be swapped when you want. The brake mounts are designed for posts and can work with 180 or 160mm rotors giving you plenty of power. The complete bikes come with 180mm fronts and 160mm rears. For the headset, Scott specifies their own Syncros model, which means the design meshes perfectly with the fork and frame. As per their want, it’s light and durable. In fact, that’s the beauty of Scott specifying a healthy dose of Syncros componentry on the Spark. They design carefully, build light, and cut out the intermediate steps in the supply chain to keep costs down. And the parts are finished to complement the color scheme. The Scott Spark 900/700 Alloy bikes bring incredible value to full-suspension cross-country riding.
